TMJ Dysfunction is named after the Tempro-mandibular Joint (where your lower jaw connects to your skull near your ear) and primarily refers to a dysfunction of the muscles and joints that move this complex system, causing the patient a number of symptoms ranging from mild to severe pain, clicking on opening and, at the extreme, lock jaw or total immobilisation of the lower jaw.

Dr Tuffley is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of TMJ and through significant research and clinical experience he has developed an integrated non-surgical treatment plan, which creates positive and non-invasive outcomes for patients. Surgical solutions, such as the replacement of the joint, can temporarily relieve the symptoms, however if the causes are not addressed, then the underlying problem and associated symptoms will return.
